Arsenal are interested in signing Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martinez, according to The Athletic.
In an article discussing the future of William Saliba, journalists James McNicholas and Mark Carey confirmed that “enquiries” have been made for Martinez this summer:
If William Saliba is headed back to Arsenal, where exactly will he fit in?@TheAthleticUK used data & video to compare him to existing #AFC centre-halves.
🔺Seen as RCB
🔺Ball carrying ability comparable to White

The Gunners are known to be keen on snapping up a left-sided centre-half in order to replace Pablo Mari. They pursued Freiburg’s Nico Schlotterbeck during the January transfer window but the player has since joined Borussia Dortmund so Martinez has been considered as an alternative.
The Argentine, who has seven caps for his country, would certainly fit the bill. He is left-footed and has played at left-back on more than one occasion.
Manchester United have also been mentioned as potential suitors for Martinez, which is not a surprise, considering manager Erik ten Hag has worked with the defender previously. Whether Arsenal will step up their interest in the player, we shall have to wait and see.
