Arsenal have held “informal” discussions with Sporting Lisbon about signing Tiago Tomas this summer, according to Goal.

The Gunners have been keeping tabs on the teenager over the past few months, with his playing style being compared to a cross between Kylian Mbappe and Brazilian legend Kaka.

Roma are also said to be scouting Tomas but, despite the interest being shown in him, it is believed that Sporting will try to keep hold of him for at least another year.

It was reported in the English press back in February that the 19-year-old could be available for as little as £20m but that claim has subsequently been refuted in the Portuguese media.

Tomas has a €60m (£51.5m) release clause so if Arsenal are serious about making a bid for the Portugal Under 21 international, they will almost certainly have to pay the buyout fee. That would probably only happen if the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are sold in the coming weeks.
