Arsenal Have Given Porto The Option To Buy Nigerian Prodigy For £3.6m

Porto have the option to buy Arsenal midfielder Kelechi Nwakali for €4m (£3.6m) any time during his season-long loan spell, according to reports in Portugal.

The Nigerian youngster is currently with the Portuguese side’s B team, and it is believed that if he plays for the club’s senior side, the option to buy will become mandatory.

Nwakali has not played a single game for the Gunners since he arrived at the London club two years ago. He starred for Nigeria at the Under 17 World Cup in 2015 and he was snapped up following the tournament.

Since then, the midfielder has been on four different loan spells, including two spells at Dutch club Maastricht and another at Eredivisie side VVV Venlo.

Former Arsenal star Kanu is a big fan of the 20-year-old with his fellow countryman recently stating that Nwakali has the talent to make it into the Gunners’ first team if given the opportunity:

“Very, very good player. I hope you have seen him play, then you will know that he is good. He played for Nigeria before the World Cup, a friendly game against Atletico Madrid.”

“He scored a fantastic goal, so he keeps playing and keeps progressing and keeps growing. I keep advising him. I hope one day they will open the door for him to come back to play for Arsenal.”

Nwakali has played four games this season in Portugal’s second division with Porto’s B side, but he has yet to score or provide an assist.
