The Tunisian international was poised to move to the Emirates last month but the paperwork could not be sorted out before the transfer deadline.
Instead, Rekik will move in the New Year, with the 18-year-old likely to become part of the Under 23 setup initially, although it is believed he has been given guarantees that he will also train with the first team.
There are reportedly ongoing discussions over whether the defender should be loaned back to Germany in order to aid his development. He has yet to play a game of senior football and he will need more experience before he is ready to play for the Gunners.
Rekik actually spent some time at Manchester City’s academy, as well as having spells at Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven and Marseille before moving to Germany.
