Arsenal Have 2 Players Chosen In Goal.com’s Poll Of The Best 50 Global Footballers

Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have both been named in Goal.com’s annual top 50 poll of the best players in the world. Sanchez appears in the list in 23th position and Mesut Ozil is at 37th position. Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United were the only Premier League clubs with more than 1 player on the list. United finished 1st of the Premier League sides with 4 players chosen followed by Arsenal and Man City with 2 players each and Tottenham, West Ham and Chelsea only have had 1 player each selected in the poll.

To determine who made the top 50, Goal.com’s football experts examined players from every territory in the world and rated them based on: their consistency; performances in key matches; honours won at their club and country; their reputations plus what they have accomplished in the game during their careers. As a result of these criteria it is no shock that Alexis Sanchez made the top half of the list after he helped Arsenal to clinch 2nd place in the Premier League and he played a big part in his country Chile lifting the 2016 Copa America Centenario trophy. Mesut Ozil also was a deserving member of the list after registering 8 goals and 20 assists in the 2015-16 season as he helped Arsenal to finish 2nd in the Premier League and won Arsenal’s Player of the Season award plus he has been an ever-present member of his national team as Germany have maintained their top 3 FIFA World ranking after reaching the summit following winning the 2014 World Cup.

Unsurprisingly, after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid and lifting the EURO 2016 trophy as captain of his country Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo was selected as the winner of the Goal.com Top 50 Elite global footballers poll. Ronaldo was followed by Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann with last year’s winner Lionel Messi finishing in 4th place this time around.

As expected almost all of the Goal.com top 50 players perform for sides in Europe’s five biggest leagues. La Liga leads the way with 19 selections, next comes the Premier League with 14, followed by the Bundesliga with 9, next comes Italy’s Serie A with 6 players chosen and France’s Ligue 1 rounds out the European Leagues with 1 player. Interestingly only 1 player representing a team from outside of Europe makes the top 50 as Argentina’s River Plate had Lucas Alario finishing in 50th place.
