Arsenal Handed Boost In Battle To Sign PSG Ace As Two Clubs Drop Out Of The Running

Arsenal are now one of the leading contenders to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Julian Draxler after both RB Leipzig and Hertha Berlin dropped out of the race to sign the midfielder, according to reports in Germany.

Hertha had opened talks with the player’s representatives about a possible switch to the Bundesliga side but the 26-year-old was said to be not keen on the move.

Leipzig, on the other hand, have been put off by Draxler’s €7.2m (£6.4m) a year wages, while they also do not need a player who plays in his position.

With the two sides no longer in contention, the Gunners are said to be one of only a few teams who want to sign him. Reports suggest that Mikel Arteta’s side and one other Premier League team have registered their interest in the player, while Inter Milan are also involved.

However, the main problem will be Draxler himself. PSG are desperate to offload him but the German international is not in a rush to leave. With his contract expiring in 2021, he could also stay and leave on a free transfer next year.
