Arsenal Given Hope In Signing £52m Rated French Stopper With Presence Of 2021 ‘Exit Clause’

RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano will have an “exit clause” inserted into his new contract that can be triggered in 2021, according to Sky Germany (via SkySports.com).

The Frenchman was set to leave the Bundesliga side this summer, with one year remaining on his current deal, but the defender reportedly feels it is too early to leave Leipzig.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked with bids for Upamecano, with the player currently having a €60m (£52m) release clause.

However, if the 21-year-old does sign a new contract, it will end any speculation about him leaving this summer. The exit clause will, though, certainly be of interest to teams like the Gunners.

The London club’s transfer budget was unlikely to stretch to match Upamecano’s release clause and so an extra year to line up a transfer could prove to be ideal. It is not known what price the exit clause will be set at by its presence will be welcomed by interested parties.
