Arsenal Frustrated In Attempts To Land Algerian Defender As Club Refuse To Lower £27m Price Tag

Arsenal are interested in Real Betis defender Aissa Mandi, according to El Desmarques.com.

The Spanish news outlet reports that the centre-back will not be sold for less than his €30m (£27m) release clause, but the Gunners are not willing to pay that much.

Mandi has been an integral player for Betis this season, having been a regular starter in all competitions for the La Liga side.

The Algerian international generally plays as a centre-half, but he is also capable of playing both as a right-back and left-back.

His flexibility would make him an ideal fit to play in a back three which Arsenal boss Unai Emery has favoured on occasions this campaign.

Betis are said to be keen for Mandi to sign a new long-term contract. The 27-year-old’s current deal expires in 2021 but the Spanish club want to increase his buyout clause to put off potential suitors.

In addition to the Gunners, the Algerian was also linked with a move to West Ham last summer.
