Arsenal Forward Kai Havertz

Arsenal attacker Kai Havertz joined from Chelsea in 2023 after a spell at Bayer Leverkusen before moving to Stamford Bridge.

Havertz is one of many players to move between Arsenal and Chelsea and has made a good impact at the Emirates under Mikel Arteta.

The German international joined for a fee of £65 million from Chelsea and produced mixed opinions among fans as an initial signing due to the fact that he faced inconsistency during his time at Stamford Bridge.

However, Havertz’s record at Arsenal has been good as he has made 64 appearances for the Gunners scoring 20 goals and eight assists in his career at the Emirates so far.

There was much discussion over the Gunners signing a striker in the summer with several names touted to join Arsenal including Viktor Gyokeres, Alexander Isak and Victor Osimhen.

However, seeing as the Gunners didn’t bring in a striker, Havertz has been given the pleasure of bein Arsenal’s number one choice up front and he is relishing the role.

Kai Havertz’s career before Arsenal

The German international began his footballing career at amateur club Alemannia Mariadorf when he was f0ur years old; his grandfather was the chairman at the club.

He stayed there until 2009 when he was signed by Bundesliga 2 club Alemmania Aachen where he spent just one year in the club’s academy before he moved to Bayer Leverkusen at the age of 11.

Havertz came through the youth system at Leverkusen and made his first professional debut for the club in October 2016 when he was 17-years-old. He become the club’s youngest ever debutant in the Bundesliga.

His record has since been broken by Florian Wirtz who remains at the club and helped them to the 2023/24 Bundesliga title.

Havertz ended up making 150 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 46 goals and 31 assists. He was unable to win any trophies at Leverkusen however which was likely Havertz’s biggest regret at his first Bundesliga club.

Following his successful development at Leverkusen, Chelsea came in with an offer and signed the German attacker for a fee of £75 million in 2020.

He signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge and made an instant impact as it only took until September before he scored his first career hat-trick in the EFL Cup against Barnsley. A month later, Havertz scored his first Premier League goal for the club.

The German ended up making 139 appearances for the Blues and scored 32 goals with 12 assists in what was a spell where he showed a lot of promise, but lacked consistent form.

However, he did help Chelsea to a Champions League win in 2021 when he scored the only goal of the game against Manchester City becoming a fan favourite in the process.

The attacker also has made an impact on the German national team as he has 53 caps, making his first in 2018 aged just 17. He has scored 19 goals for the national side which averages at 0.36 goals per game.

Three things you didn’t know about Kai Havertz

Kai Havertz had an affectionate nickname whilst in the Bundesliga in Germany as he was referred to as Alleskonner which translates as ‘jack of all trades’ due to his versatility and ability to play in several positions up front and in midfield.

Secondly, Havertz has learnt to play the piano away from the football pitch as a distraction when he wants to take his mind off football. He is aiming to master classical and modern music according to an article written by BBC Sport in 2023.

Kai Havertz doesn’t play as the number 29 for sheer coincidence. He used to enjoy gaming with his brother and together they created players on FIFA and with his brother Jan always being the number 29; Havertz dedicates his number to his brother.
