Arsenal Finally Catch A Break In Striker Hunt?

Good news for Arsenal who could finally get their shot at a star quality striker. According to the Daily Star, Mauro Icardi is about to become available after Inter’s failure to meet the player’s expectations. Apparently some things were promised in exchange for a radical change in contract for the Argentine international. His agent/girlfriend recently shared with the public some details regarding last season’s negotiations when Icardi lowered his financial expectations and agreed to lose money in hope that the Serie A club will extend his contract at the end of the season. The extension is nowhere to be seen meaning that a fallout is about to occur. Wenger has already made contact apparently but negotiations were put on hold until the whole Inter situation is cleared up. This issue and the lack of perspective could turn things around and allow the Gunners to provide some serious competition to Giroud who despite being a lot more consistent and useful than many think still has a lot to prove.

Currently, Icardi does look like a good fit for the North Londoners. He’s not as expensive as Higuain, he still has a lot to prove meaning he is determined but has not yet reached that point in his career when he focuses on other things other than football, he is strong, efficient, versatile and young. Arsenal could sign him for £27.20m which would be a bargain. Since joining Inter, he scored 52 goals in 105 games and provided 15 assists. Even so he still looks like he has a lot more to show if given the right environment. Wenger could as well be the one who gets the best out of the 23-year-old Argentine international who on the surface, would not have much to hold on at Inter. The Serie A side are nowhere near what they were a couple of years back and have fallen short when trying to keep up with Juventus, Napoli and Roma who are now dominating Italy’s domestic competition.

Arsenal can offer Icardi a motivating salary, the opportunity of playing in the strongest domestic competition in the world and most importantly the chance to play in the Champions League. It should be any striker’s dream to perform in the Premier League as it provides constant challenges and a high tempo which Icardi might be very keen on tackling in the years to come. Hopefully, Wenger will make a bid for Inter’s striker who has also sparked interest in clubs like Atletico, Tottenham and Roma
