Arsenal Favourites To Land Striker

Arsenal look to have beaten off competition from various clubs in order to sign Colombian striker Jackson Martinez. His club, Porto, have reportedly admitted they’re ready to sell.

Porto have previously resisted a number of offers from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, Napoli and Chelsea were two clubs said to be interested in their star man, but president Pinto da Costa says a deal is now on the cards for the end of the season, if the right price is met. AC Milan were also strongly linked with Martinez, but have now appeared to have pulled out of the race after turning their attentions to Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani instead.

Arsenal are planning to offer £25 million for Martinez, which should activate his release clause and have emerged as front runners for his signature. Martinez, who is currently on international duty for Colombia in the Copa America, hinted that he would welcome a move to the Emirates.

The 28-year-old had this to say:

“It’s a big club in one of the best leagues in the world. We have to see if an offer will become a reality or not.”

“The day we’ll know where my future goes is near. I still haven’t decided, as I’m focused on the Copa America right now.”

Arsenal are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window and a striker is said to be once again a big priority. Now, with Martinez issuing a come and get me plea to Wenger, it seems only a matter of time before we see the hotshot in the Premier League at the Emirates.
