Arsenal fans slam former star after dismal week for new club

Arsenal fans have slammed former striker Olivier Giroud after what has been a dismal week for the Frenchman at his new club.

The 31-year-old joined rivals Chelsea on deadline day in an £18 million move, replacing the outbound Michy Batshuayi at Stamford Bridge.

He left The Emirates a fan favourite having bagged over 100 goals for the club in what was undoubtedly limited game time during his five-and-a-half season spell in North London.

Late winners, super-sub appearances and screamers – most notably his famous ‘Scorpion Kick’ goal that earned Giroud the Puskas Award last year – were the France internationals trademark at The Emirates – and despite Arsenal having completed the record signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – he will without a doubt be a sorely missed figure at the club.

Things haven’t gotten off to the start Giroud would have hoped for at Stamford Bridge.

Giroud watched on from the sidelines on deadline day evening as his new side were thumped 3-0 at home to Bournemouth.

A week later, he made his debut for the Blues, but it wasn’t one to remember. Giroud made only a cameo in a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road on Monday night.

To add insult to the Frenchman’s injury – he saw his former side thrash struggling Everton 5-1 at The Emirates on Saturday, with his replacement Aubameyang getting off the mark on his own debut for the Gunners.

While he was without doubt a favourite at the club, it hasn’t stopped the Arsenal faithful from enjoying what has been a nightmare week for their former star …
