Arsenal fans have taken to social media to react to the news that the club are set to offer William Saliba a contract extension.
The Gunners will be keen to tie Saliba down to a new contract as there has been reported transfer interest from Real Madrid, who have made the Frenchman a priority target.
The defender has become one of the best centre-backs in the world, helping Mikel Arteta to lead an Arsenal defence that conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League last season.
This year, the 23-year-old has made 36 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal and is one of Arteta’s first names on the team sheet.
According to a fresh report by the Mirror, the Gunners want to keep hold of the Frenchman, and are set to offer him a contract extension with his current deal expiring in 2027.
His current contract earns him around £190,000 per week, whereas the new deal will reportedly send £250,000 per week into his account, making him the third-highest earner at the club behind Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.
Arsenal fans react to Saliba’s possible new contract
Many Gunners fans will be pleased to hear the news that Arsenal want to extend Saliba’s contract at the club, especially considering his impressive performances in the past two years.
They believe that keeping hold of Saliba and his centre-back partner Gabriel is essential to them winning a league title in the near future.
They took to Reddit to express their feelings on the news…

Real Madrid set to offer ‘world record’ fee for Saliba
The news that the Gunners are preparing to extend his deal at the Emirates comes as no surprise considering the recent reports linking him over a move to Madrid.
Saliba is reportedly on their summer shortlist, with the club likely having to offer upwards of £75 million, which is currently the transfer record fee for a defender.
Josko Gvardiol moved to Manchester City for £75m, and Madrid will likely have to surpass this figure in order to land Saliba, breaking the record.
