Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori suffered a knee injury during Tuesday night’s game against Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Gunners won 1-0 against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night in what was a nervy affair for Mikel Arteta’s side in the Champions League.
Defender Riccardo Calafiori was substituted after 72 minutes for Myles Lewis-Skelly after he slipped and injured his knee.
It is not yet understood how long the Italian international will be out for, but after the game Mikel Arteta said: “With Riccy, [Calafiori] it’s something different; he felt something; I don’t know the extent of that, so in that sense, it’s not great news.”
The Arsenal boss didn’t seem positive about the defender and with recent injuries to Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber too, it could be a big blow for the Gunners as they prepare for a clash with Liverpool at the weekend.
Arsenal fans took to X to respond to the news that Calafiori could miss some time.

It’s concerning to hear about Riccardo Calafiori’s possible knee injury. The Arsenal staff’s quick response shows their commitment to player welfare. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery—he’s an important asset to the team, and we look forward to seeing him back on the pitch soon.

Speedy Recovery, Calafiori! ❤️🩹
Fingers crossed it’s just a scare. After missing 75 games in ’18/19 due to ligament issues, let’s hope it’s not serious!

Arsenal have injury woes ahead of crucial Liverpool clash
Mikel Arteta will have his fingers crossed as he may have several selection dilemmas to make before the Gunners face Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori will both be unavailable for the game due to injury where as Bukayo Saka, Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all in doubt for the game.
If that wasn’t bad enough, centre-back William Saliba will miss the Liverpool clash as he was sent off during Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth this past weekend so will also be unavailable.
