Arsenal Failed In Last-Ditch Cisse Attempt

Wenger recognized the need to bring an additional striker to the Emirates Stadium in January, given the frailties which would be exposed in case of a possible injury to Olivier Giroud. As a result, Arsenal were linked with many front men throughout the month from across the continent.

They were in constant touch with Schalke over Julian Draxler, and were linked with Juventus’ Marko Vucinic and Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata at different stages of the transfer window. On Deadline Day, as the Gunners struggled to get a new face in, Wenger turned to the likes of Lazio’s Miroslav Klose and Lille’s Salomon Kalou, however could not succeed in getting either of them on loan to the club.

Metro now report that Wenger even made a last ditch attempt at luring Newcastle United’s Pappis Cisse on loan, with an option of buying him on a permanent deal in the summer. However, the bid was turned down by the Magpies who were only interested in selling him outright for £7 million – something which Arsenal were not looking to do at this point in time.

With Wenger just managing to get in Kim Kallstrom and no strikers, do you think that he will regret the lack of activity in this winter transfer window?
