Arsenal Fail In Attempt To Sign Ozil Replacement As 16 Year Old Wonderkid Rejects £900K A Year Contract

Lyon attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki has turned down a contract offer from Arsenal, according to reports in the Spanish media.

The 16-year-old has yet to sign a professional deal, despite already having made 12 senior appearances, and it is believed the Gunners tried to lure him to the Emirates with a contract worth approximately €1m (£900,000) a season.

It was also reported that the London club were prepared to guarantee him minutes on the pitch, with Cherki likely to have been targeted as a long term replacement for Mesut Ozil.

For Lyon, he has generally played as a number 10 or as a winger, with his standout performance of the season coming in the French Cup back in January as an attacking midfielder. He scored twice and provided two assists in a 4-3 win over Nantes.

However, despite Arsenal’s interest, it appears Cherki has already committed to a move to Real Madrid. The La Liga club reportedly offered the teenager only €800,000 a year but he has his heart set on a move to Spain. He will switch clubs when he turns 18.
