Arsenal Face Twitter Backlash

Arsenal are not only going through a crisis in the transfer market, but according to Metro, the crisis continued on Twitter, as their recent attempt to get fans involved ahead of the popular Emirates Cup became embarrassing, with fans voting Gonzalo Higuain as the player they wish to see most in the upcoming competition.

The Gunners have not had the rub of the green in terms of transfers, with many transfer targets picking other clubs over them. Inevitably, even though the club’s supporters were excited by the fact that chairman Ivan Gazidiz gave hope of big deals, they must realize that the transition in the spending policy will take time to adapt for the relatively conservative board. Over the past few seasons, the club have been seen making big sales in players like Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas, and spend a fraction of that amount to sign young potential stars who take a few seasons to get to their best. However, time is running out for Arsenal, and with just a month left before the transfer window is to conclude, the board have made no major signings.

The squad have been traveling to Asia for their pre-season tour, which was successful in bonding the team together, and getting them prepared for the Barclays Premier League campaign. Theo Walcott has been on the scoresheet, and is looking forward to the season ahead.

Almost all Premier League clubs have taken to social media to reach out to fans, and many have been successful in doing so. However, the power of social media can hit back, and that is exactly what happened when Arsenal’s Twitter page posted a poll asking fans their opinion on who they were looking forward to seeing at the Emirates Cup. The personnel who uploaded the poll expected an Arsenal player to be one that dominates the Tweets; but instead, it was a player Arsenal missed out on who dominated the poll.

The club’s unsuccessful chase of Higuain was highlighted by fans, who voted the new Napoli signing as the player they would like to see at the competition.
