Arsenal Face Fight For PSG Star

According to Yahoo! Eurosport, Arsenal will face competition from Italian giants Juventus for the signature of Paris Saint Germain striker Jeremy Menez, who has fallen down the ranks at the Parc de Paris, with the influx of new stars at the defending French champions.

Arsene Wenger has been denying the possibility of any transfers before Friday’s 11pm deadline, but like all big clubs, the Gunners will pounce on any opportunity that presents itself at the right price. The club have been progressing well this season in terms of results, but have fallen short of strikers, with Olivier Giroud the only recognised striker featuring regularly at this stage.

PSG have the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi in their attack line, forcing Menez onto the bench. The Frenchman has to gain more playing time to be considered for the French national team traveling to Brazil. Menez has started just 5 matches so far this season, and that has prompted the striker to look for a regular starting spot elsewhere.

The Barclays Premier League poses a big challenge for a player coming from the French league, and Menez could be tempted by Juventus’ interest in the striker. The Italian league is similar in nature to the French, and that could threaten the move to Arsenal.

After Arsenal faced Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium last night, and drew 2-2, Wenger may now be convinced he needs more attacking depth.
