Arsenal Eyeing Deal For 30M Rated Marksman As Potential Calvert Lewin Alternative

Arsenal are considering a move for Lille forward Jonathan David, according to the Evening Standard.

The Canadian international is being scouted by the Gunners and he is being looked at as a potential alternative to Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

It has been suggested that the England striker has an asking price close to £60m, but reports in the French media in recent days have claimed David may only cost around €35m (£30m).

Considering he is topping the goalscoring charts in Ligue One at the age of just 21, it does indicate that he would be a very shrewd purchase by Arsenal.

It is believed that the Gunners’ scouting department have been keeping an eye on David for a number of years. However, other teams, such as Liverpool have also held a long-standing interest in the player.

At this stage, it is unclear whether Calvert-Lewin or David is the top target but the Canadian would certainly be the more economical option.
