Arsenal are interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow, according to reports in the German media.

The 25-year-old is a teammate of Granit Xhaka’s at international level, and he has started all three group games for Switzerland at the World Cup.

Sow is generally deployed as a box-to-box midfielder so he wouldn’t necessarily be the backup option for Thomas Partey that some fans were hoping for.

In fact, it could be argued that his best position in the Gunners’ team would be Xhaka’s, considering the Arsenal star has played in a more advanced role this season.

Sow is unlikely to cost a massive amount as he has just over eighteen months remaining on his contract at Frankfurt. However, there could be competition from other Premier League teams.

Nottingham Forest tried to sign the Swiss international in the summer and they may return with another bid next month, while Newcastle are also weighing up a move for the player.
