Arsenal Eye Barcelona Full Back

Arsenal Eye Barcelona Full Back

Arsenal are set to try rectify their defensive crisis in the coming January transfer window and will be eying a deal for Barcelona full back Dani Alves while Mathieu Debuchy remains out with an injury, according to the Express.

Debuchy made the move from Newcastle United after impressing for the Magpies in his spell at St. James Park. The Frenchman made a decent start to his career at Arsenal, and became a consistent feature in the right back berth. The position has troubled Arsene Wenger over the past few months due to the departure of Bacary Sagna to Manchester City. Debuchy sustained a heavy injury that will see him out of action, leaving Calum Chambers to cover in the position.

Alves has been an integral part of the Brazilian national squad, and was part of Luis Felipe Scolari’s squad at the World Cup. The 31-year old started his career at Bahia, before moving to Sevilla where he spent a large part of his early days in football. After 175 appearances for the club, he made the move to the Nou Camp, where he has played 196 games for the Catalan giants, scoring 14 goals. However, Luis Enrique has young options at right back in his squad, and Alves will have to take a backseat in order to let the younger talent emerge at the club.

Arsenal are also keen on a deal for Pedro but surely such a seriously large double outlay on two players at the same time just does not seem like a move Wenger would make.
