Arsenal are ‘increasingly confident’ that they can hold onto home-grown wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri for the foreseeable future, according to a tweet from journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Talks between Nwaneri and the club are thought to be progressing smoothly – the Gunners’ hierarchy believe that they can reach a deal with the player ‘soon’.
This is great news for Arsenal fans – Nwaneri is a brilliant young player who they should be fighting tooth and nail to keep at the club long-term.
In Romano’s tweet, he wrote: “Understand Arsenal now increasingly confident to keep 2007 born gem Ethan Nwaneri at the club — new deal almost agreed despite top clubs interest. Club sources confirm plan to get it done soon, talks advancing and progressing well waiting to have it signed.”
Who is interested in signing Ethan Nwaneri?
Both Chelsea and Manchester City are thought to have registered an interest in Nwaneri’s services over the past couple of weeks in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The Blues were thought to have submitted an offer for the youngster recently, but nothing has surfaced since this news came to light. He would align perfectly with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly’s transfer policy, as he looks to sign as many wonderkids as he can from across the globe – like a happy-go-lucky Football Manager player.
What does Ethan Nwaneri bring to the Arsenal squad?
Currently, as one would expect, Nwaneri is far from the finished product – but that does not mean he has nothing to offer, even at such a young age.
For a 16-year-old, Nwaneri has a startlingly wide skillset. He is an excellent, not to mention fearless, dribbler of the ball. Moreover, his first touch is also sublime.
He isn’t just a silky dribbler, though. He also has a wide range of passing and is perfectly capable of spraying the ball around the pitch in an intelligent manner. Not only can he create chances for himself, but he can also open the door for his teammates.
Last season, when he made his Gunners debut, Nwaneri became the youngest player to ever play in the Premier League – breaking the previous record held by Liverpool starboy Harvey Elliot.
