Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has said that he’s not sure that Marcus Rashford would be right for the Gunners amid reports linking him over a move to the Emirates.
Rashford, 27, looks set to leave Manchester United during the January transfer window on an initial loan deal, with possible obligations to buy.
The United attacker has fallen out of favour with manager Ruben Amorim, who dropped him from his first-team squad on multiple occasions, sparking Rashford to make comments saying he wants a “new challenge”.
Arsenal have been linked with signing Rashford as they look to add a striker in place of the injured Gabriel Jesus, but Petit believes that it wouldn’t be the right move for his former side.
He told us, on behalf of Casino Utan Spelpaus: “I really like Rashford, but I don’t know what’s been going on in his mind for months now.
I think he has lost his desire, his motivation. So, do you think Rashford is exactly what Arsenal needs right now? Arsenal is not a retirement home. You need someone that can add something to the team straight away. Do you think Rashford will be able to do that right now? Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m not sure about that.
“If Arsenal do business in January, they need someone that can change the situation on the pitch, that can take decisions. Someone who has the personality and the character to change the game.”
Arsenal keen to add a striker in the January transfer window
The Gunners are in desperate need of a striker, as, following the recent injury to Jesus, they only have Kai Havertz who can play at the position.
They have been linked with Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, however the Magpies have set a £115m price tag on him, a fee that Arsenal can’t afford this month.
Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic has also been linked over a move to the Emirates, as he has fallen out of favour at the Serie A side, despite scoring 12 goals so far this season.
