Arsenal are “determined” to sign Espanyol midfielder Marc Roca this summer, according to Sport. The Gunners are looking for a new holding midfield player and the Catalan publication reports that the 23-year-old is their “first option.”

Roca was actually on the London club’s radar last year after he starred for Spain in their European Under 21 Championship triumph, but they opted to sign Dani Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid instead.

However, it looks as though Arsenal will revive their interest at the end of the season, with Espanyol needing to make player sales with the club likely to be relegated if the season resumes.

Roca has a €40m (£35m) release clause, but considering their situation, Espanyol will probably accept an offer for below that amount. The midfielder has been a regular starter in the La Liga side’s midfield this campaign, having scored two goals and provided three assists in 33 appearances.
