Last season, Thomas Partey was one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League. He gave Arsenal’s centre-backs very little to worry about as he routinely snuffed out attacks through the middle.
With Granit Xhaka and Martin Odegaard ahead of him, the trio formed a formidable midfield three that was very difficult to play through.
He wasn’t perfect – several audiences criticised him for his immobility – but he was brilliant from a defensive standpoint.
