Arsenal Could Look At Short Term Striking Alternatives

Arsenal’s search for a top striker hasn’t been going according to plan. They were turned down during the summer when they missed out on two of Europe’s finest scorers. Higuain and Villa chose Napoli and Atletico, leaving Wenger with no real alternative than to keep Bendtner who would have probably left if not for the lack of options. Fortunately for the Gunners, Giroud is more than capable of performing at the highest level. The downside is, the Frenchman is the only true forward Arsenal can currently count on. Not only that adds a lot of pressure but it also wears the player out physically.

According to Metro, Wenger is looking for a temporary solution that might come from Spain. Romanian striker, Ciprian Marica could fill the spot in Arsenal’s offensive line if the winter targets will not agree to come to Emirates. The Gunners’ boss is well aware of the fact that signing Benzema or Benteke, who could be on the move during the January transfer window, is going to be tough. Price is not the issue as much as club rivalry and Arsenal’s lack of trophies. Even if they do have a great shot at winning the Premier League, it is hard to believe Benzema will want to leave Real Madrid, who win competitions on a regular basis.

With that in mind, Getafe’s Ciprian Marica could be one of the most effective choices to make. The 28 year old striker is well acquainted to facing serious adversaries considering his past which includes clubs like Schalke, Shakhtar Donetsk and Stuttgart. His contract expires next year and he is valued at 1.3 million pounds which is a more than reasonable price. The problem with Marica is that even though he is profiled as a box striker, he has a very low goals to games ratio. If you look over his performance sheet, you will find that the Romanian scores once every 6 or 7 matches which is not enough to challenge Giroud. Hopefully Wenger will find a long term option during the winter transfer period which is just around the corner now.
