Arsenal are seriously discussing whether to use Granit Xhaka in a bid to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to reports in England.
Xhaka was signed from Gladbach in 2016 and he was linked with a return to the Bundesliga club in the 2020 January transfer window.
It is therefore likely that he’d be open to making the move back to Germany, with Zakaria going in the other direction. The pair are international teammates, having regularly played alongside each other for Switzerland. However, they are at different stages of their careers.
Zakaria is closing in on the final twelve months of his contract with Gladbach, and it is believed he will be looking to move on at the end of the season.
Even so, with Manchester City and Manchester United having shown interest in the midfielder in recent months, the 24-year-old could still cost a sizeable sum, which the Gunners may not be able to afford.
The London club are looking at doing a number of swap deals in order to get their transfer business done this summer, so a move involving Xhaka and Zakaria is seen as a realistic possibility.
