Arsenal are interested in Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, according to reports in the Italian media.

Tottenham are said to be keen on signing the 20-year-old but it seems the Gunners have now entered the running for the player.

Zaniolo was an instant hit at Roma following a £4m move from Inter Milan last summer, scoring six goals and contributing two assists in 36 appearances.

Spurs have reportedly been trying to include the Italian in their negotiations to sell Toby Alderweireld to the Giallorossi.

The Belgian defender is a target for the Serie A side and manager Mauricio Pochettino would like Zaniolo to move in the opposite direction.

The Italian international is, however, rated very highly by Roma and it has been reported that Tottenham would be prepared to pay €40m (£36m) plus Alderweireld to secure his signature.

If those figures were correct, it would surely rule out the Gunners from making a bid of their own, especially with more pressing concerns in other areas of the pitch.
