Arsenal Confirm Interest In Frenchman

According to the Daily Star, Arsene Wenger has admitted his interest in Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann, but admitted Arsenal were not the only ones fighting for the player’s signature.

Griezmann began his career in Sociedad’s youth academy in 2005, and spent four years developing his game in readiness for the professional level. In 2009, he was offered a professional contract for the senior team, and the winger has gone on to play 168 league matches for the club, scoring 45 goals in the process. His international appearances have been regular, as Griezmann has represented France at all the junior levels.

Arsenal have been missing a natural winger’s presence over the past few years, and since Gervinho’s departure, have lacked an accurate crosser of the ball. Olivier Giroud’s presence in the box can be utilised better with a natural crosser, and Griezmann could prove to be a valuable addition in the squad.

The current season has been the best of his spell at Sociedad, with the winger scoring 19 goals in 38 appearances this season. This has prompted big European clubs to monitor his contractual situation in Spain, and therefore will likely attempt to lure him away in the summer.
