Wenger has finally decided to extend Chuba Akpom’s stay at the Emirates. There have been many rumors regarding the youngster’s departure this winter but none of them came true. The 19 year old is one of the most highly regarded attackers of his generation and was linked to big clubs including Liverpool. Fortunately for Arsenal, he decided to stay and to fight for a spot in the starting eleven next season. According to the Daily Mail, Akpom will be offered a deal that extends until 2019 when he will be expected to have reached top form. There is a very big chance that he will be sent out on loan at least for some time before then.

It will be a great success for Wenger to keep Akpom in London next to players like Welbeck, Giroud and Sanchez. If he is given the chance, it is very likely that he will become a true competitor for a spot in the starting eleven. Even though up until now he has only shown glimpses of his brilliance when making appearances under Wenger’s guidance, he still represents a very good option for the future. It remains to be seen if he will become the third striker Arsenal have been looking for or if he will spend time somewhere else other than the Emirates. Formalities on a new contract should be concluded fairly quickly given his refusal to give in to offers from Liverpool and other teams who might try to guarantee him a spot in their starting eleven.
