Arsenal confident of keeping superstar as Wenger reveals positive talks

Arsenal’s summer so far has been superb but the Gunners are left relying on their ability to keep hold of star names to decide the full effectiveness of their transfer window, as Arsene Wenger’s side face the prospect of losing star names- many of whom are attracting rival Premier League interest.

Mesut Ozil handed the club a boost this week when he revealed it was his intention to stay, with his contract having entered it’s final 12 months, but speculation persists on the futures of both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez, with Arsenal particularly wary about the possibility of losing the latter.

The Chilean superstar has been linked with the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich this summer, with reports linking him with a reunion with Pep Guardiola seemingly appearing every day, but Arsene Wenger had a positive update to share on the club’s pre-season tour.

Alexis was left behind for the trip to Australia and China, along with the likes of Hector Bellerin and Shkodran Mustafi, who also featured in international tournaments this summer, and the two-time Copa America winner is set to reunite with the Gunners at the end of the month.

Arsenal fans will also have their hopes raised significantly of seeing Alexis Sanchez remain at the club, with Wenger revealing he’s held positive talks with his superstar via text- indicating that Arsenal have a strong chance of retaining their Player of the Year’s signature.

When asked by journalists if Alexis Sanchez would stay at Arsenal, Wenger responded:

‘Of course. There is not a lot to resolve at the moment with the player. I have spoken through text and it was very positive. My thoughts are always positive.’

Arsenal are determined to keep Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates Stadium and are desperate not to sell to a Premier League rival, with suggestions the Gunners could demand as much as £80m for the 28-year-old’s services, but they run the risk of losing the former Barcelona man for free at the end of the season.

With Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette signed though, and the Gunners eyeing further recruits, Arsenal will hope they’ve done enough to convince the South American of their ambitions and will eye a push to glory next year.
