Arsenal Close To Signing Julio Cesar?

The Gunners are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper this summer, as they look set to sell Italian Vito Mannone to Sunderland in the coming weeks. They want to bring in an experienced and quality goalkeeper who can strongly challenge the likes of Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski for a spot in goal. They have thus turned towards Queens Park Rangers’ custodian, Julio Cesar.

The Brazilian international arrived from Inter Milan last summer, however could not prevent his team from relegation. He is looking to quit Loftus Road and is keen to remain in London, thus a move to Arsenal seems the most likely possibility for him. He is currently in his home country, representing Brazil in the Confederations Cup, and helped lead his side to an impressive 3-0 win in the final against Spain on Sunday.

DailyMail reports that he is set to complete his transfer to the Emirates Stadium once the tournament is over, when he is free from his international commitments and is ready to discuss his club future. The move is set to work well for both the parties involved, as Cesar will remain in England’s top flight and will get to remain in London. Arsenal too will get a quality goalkeeper for as low as £2 million, and will not have to dig deep into their reported £70 million transfer purse. They can utilize those funds to attract players like Gonzalo Higuain, who too is expected to finalize his transfer shortly.

Arsenal, though, are not having similar luck in their chase of Everton’s Marouane Fellaini and Swansea City’s Ashley Williams, as they are refusing to meet the massive release clauses attached to both these players. They are skeptical of splashing £24 million to meet Fellaini’s release clause and to meet his £100,000-a-week wage demands.

They too have reached a crossroads in their chase of Williams, as Swansea are firmly holding out for £10 million for their star defender. With Higuain and now Cesar looking to be in the bag, do you see Arsenal sensationally complete the double signing of Fellaini and Williams?
