Arsenal Close To Offloading Bendtner

Danish international, Nicklas Bendtner has hardly ever been regarded as a first-choice striker at the club since his arrival back in the summer of 2004. He has always played second fiddle to the likes of Thierry Henry, followed by Emmanuel Adebayor and then to Robin van Persie. With the striker getting increasingly frustrated at his bit-part role in the team, he was allowed to go out on loan for the previous two seasons.

He spent loan spells at fellow English side Sunderland and then another stint at Italian champions Juventus. He failed to make any sort of impression at either of his loan deals, and is now back at the Emirates Stadium. With French international Olivier Giroud being the obvious first choice up front for next season, Bendtner’s chances of featuring have further slimmed down given the fact that the Gunners are interested in bringing another striker in the form of Luis Suarez from Liverpool.

Therefore, Arsenal are looking to get him off their wage bill and do any other house keeping to trim expenses and let players go who are not in the club’s plans. They have set the wheels in motion on this as they have already offloaded bit-part players like Andrei Arshavin, Andre Santos and Sebastien Squilacci and are also likely to sell off Gervinho.

Daily Mail have recently reported that they are in negotiations with La Liga side Malaga for a permanent transfer of the 25-year old. Malaga are understood to be keen on him and are ready to include their club captain and defender Jesus Gamez in the frame to sweeten the deal. This could actually turn out to be a win-win for Arsenal as they will offload Bendtner and in turn gain a right-back in the process.

It seems like an interesting deal, do you see this transfer materializing in the coming days?
