Arsenal Can Beat Lincoln City And Save Their Season With FA Cup Win And Top 4 Finish

Three weeks ago at Arsenal and it seemed things could never get worse than they were, having been on the back of successive 3-1 and 5-1 hidings at the hands of Chelsea and Bayern Munich, respectively.

However, fast forward to now and they have got worse, much worse. Having been torn apart by Jurgen Klopp’s out of form Liverpool side, with star man Alexis Sanchez having reportedly stormed out of training leading to other key men – namely Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Petr Cech – supposedly ready to walk out of the club, and then handed another 5-1 hammering by Bayern in their return fixture, surely things can’t get worse again?

Laying before Arsene Wenger, who is facing unprecedented levels of anger from his fans, is a huge potential banana skin in an FA Cup quarter-final clash with non-league Lincoln City.

Having knocked out non-league opposition Sutton United, after the Bayern humiliation (the first one), Gunners fans will be hoping that their side can make easy work of The Imps at The Emirates in Saurday’s late kick off.

However, considering the constant capitulations from the Gunners players in recent weeks, nothing seems certain and they are facing one of the toughest mental tests in recent seasons.

Although, on the otherside of that mental mountain is a spot in the FA Cup last four. Whilst the oldest, and most famous, trophy in association football has certainly lost it’s shine this season, with plenty of debate over how to ‘save’ it, it could be the saving grace for the players and, most certainly the manager, this term.

A third FA Cup in four years and a top four finish, which is still very much on the cards, whilst far from being able to cover the scars of humiliation this season, would certainly be something to build on in the next campaign.

At the start of the season, Wenger claimed he had the most mature squad he’d had in years at his disposal, if that is true they must head out against Lincoln and prove their manager right, whilst also fighting for his job.

The Frenchman has an unrivalled record in the FA Cup and will be desperate to extend that this season. The Arsenal fans need something to celebrate, and soon, the players must sense that, put everything behind them and make sure they don’t send things off a cliff at The Emirates with a win this weekend.

Get past the FA Cup feelgood story of the season, and the Gunners could be well on their way to celebrating some silverware.
