REPORT: Arsenal Believed To Be Monitoring Young Brazilian Winger

Arsenal have been linked with a potential transfer move for Gremio winger Bitello, according to a report from Brazilian spotrs media outlet Portal do Gremista.

It has been reported that Arsenal had a scout present at Bitello’s latest competitive fixture, which saw Gremio take on Botafogo in the Brazilian league. As things stand, it is unclear as to whether the Gunners are lining up a bid or not.

Despite this, the game itself was perhaps not the greatest reflection of Bitello’s talents, as Gremio were beaten by a score of 2-0.

A hard-working wide man, Bitello has no qualms when it comes to helping out his defenders. Additionally, he possesses all the attributes needed in a modern winger – he is fast, technically sound and is brilliant at creating chances for both himself and his teammates.

How much would Bitello cost Arsenal?

Should Arsenal opt to make a move for Bitello, he would likely cost around £8.5 million. For a club of Arsenal’s stature, who have already completed big money deals for the likes of Kai Havertz and Declan Rice in the ongoing transfer window, this would be a drop in the ocean.

With that being said, it is a lot of money if it just going to be wasted. However, Bitello is a very multifaceted footballer – not only is he a talented winger, he can also play in central midfield and in attacking midfield if he is required to do so.

Brazilian wingers of Arsenal’s past and present

Arsenal have had mixed success with Brazilian wingers in the past. One of their current superstars, Gabriel Martinelli, has been fantastic – but many Gunners fans would rather forget the run that Willian had at the Emirates Stadium.

Willian was not the only Brazilian winger signed by Arsenal who turned out to be a disastrous signing. Wellington Silva, who was at Arsenal for six years, never made an appearance for the club due to issues with his work permit.

Generally, the Gunners have done better when signing Brazilians to occupy defensive positions. Players such as Sylvinho, Julio Baptista and and Gabriel have all had successful stints with Arsenal.
