Arsenal begin talks with €40 million rated Ligue 1 star

Arsenal have opened talks with Ligue 1 side Nice over the transfer of midfielder Jean Michael Seri.

The Gunners tried to land the highly rated Ivorian midfielder last summer, however saw a £35 million bid rejected with Nice keen to hold onto the 26-year-old enforcer.

However things are different this time around, with Seri understood to have a release clause in his contract for the same amount that activates this summer.

And Arsenal are wasting no time in making sure they land their man, with The Sun reporting the club have already opened talks with both Nice and the player to bring him to The Emirates in the coming weeks.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona and PSG are also interested in Seri.

The Ivory Coast star joined Nice in 2015 for a mere £750,000 from Portuguese side Pacos de Ferreira, and has since established himself as one of France’s most revered defensive midfielders.

Seri has made 121 appearances across three seasons for Les Aiglons, helping them to consecutive top six finishes in France’s top division.

Should Seri join Arsenal this summer, it is widely expected to signal the end of Jack Wilshere’s career in North London.

The Englishman missed out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup this summer after a disappointing second-half of the season at The Emirates.
