Arsenal are “confident” that they won’t have to forfeit their game against PSV Eindhoven, according to the Evening Standard.
The Europa League group fixture was postponed due to a lack of police numbers and the Gunners are now scrambling for a solution to reschedule the match.
With every midweek slot filled until the World Cup, there is “no available date” before the New Year, which puts Mikel Arteta’s side in a tricky position.
The onus is on the home team to find a day to play the game or, otherwise, UEFA could punish them the same way that Tottenham were last season. After a virus outbreak, Spurs were forced to cancel a Conference League match versus Rennes but, after failing to find a date to reschedule the fixture, a 3-0 win was awarded to the French club.
There are a few options still being looked at by Arsenal. The midweek game versus Manchester City on October 19th or the Carabao Cup match against Brighton on November 8th could be moved. A date in January may also be considered if UEFA approves.
