Arsenal and Manchester United are in “pole position” to sign Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi in the summer, according to Calciomercato.com.
The Italian website claims that despite Juve triggering their option to extend the World Cup winner’s contract for a further year, there’s no guarantee he will stay in Italy beyond the end of the season.
Matuidi moved to Serie A from Paris Saint-Germain for €30m in 2017, and has been a first-team regular throughout his two and half year stay with the OId Lady.
The France international is, however, 32 years of age, and with the player now having twelve months to run on his contract by the summer, it looks as though Juventus are prepared to cash in on him.
Arsenal do have a number of central midfielders in the squad, but Matuidi’s energy, strength and dynamism would certainly provide a different option to the likes of Grant Xhaka and Lucas Torreira. Whether the Gunners will make a move for the Frenchman, we shall have to wait and see.
