Arsenal And Tottenham Remain Firmly In The Race To Secure £21m Deadline Day Deal For German Star

Arsenal, Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain and a number of Spanish clubs are still involved in the battle to sign Juventus midfielder Emre Can, according to reports in Germany.

It was believed that Borussia Dortmund were the closest to signing the former Liverpool player but while they have agreed a loan move with an obligation to buy for €25m (£21m) in the summer, it appears that they will face competition for him.

The Gunners have signed two players on initial loan deals, Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares, in January, and with Can also apparently available on a temporary basis, this may have attracted the London club into the transfer battle.

Whether they actually need another holding midfielder, it is open for debate. Head coach Mikel Arteta already has the likes of Lucas Torreira, Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi at his disposal.

However, Can would offer the Spaniard a more physical option in midfield, and with the experience of playing in the Premier League already, he would also not need to adapt before making an impact at the Emirates.
