Arsenal And Newcastle Vying To Sign League One Starlet Who Could Be Snapped Up For £3.5m

Arsenal and Newcastle are both interested in signing Ipswich midfielder Flynn Downes, according to the Chronicle. The North East based publication claims that the two Premier League sides have been tracking the 21-year-old’s progress this season.

It is believed that Ipswich had set a £7m asking price for the England Under 20 international before the global health crisis plunged lower league teams into financial difficulties.

The Chronicle reports that Downes could now be available for around half that amount with the Tractor Boys keen to sell players to keep the club going.

The midfielder has been a regular starter for the League One club under manager Paul Lambert this campaign, having played 32 games, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

Downes also has experience of playing in the Championship, after being handed his debut at the beginning of the 2017/18 season. Despite his young age, he has already made 84 appearances at senior level.
