Arsenal and Tottenham are keeping a close eye on Manchester United defender Phil Jones’s contract situation, according to the Sun.
The 26-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, but Jose Mourinho’s side do have the option of extending his deal by an additional year.
United are said to be unlikely to let Jones leave on a free transfer in the summer, and it’s almost certain that they will trigger their twelve-month extension.
Whether that will put an end to the Gunners’ interest in the England international, it remains to be seen.
Jones’s injury record has meant he has made just two appearances in all competitions this campaign, while last season he managed just 25 games, mainly due to hamstring problems.
United are reportedly keen on recruiting reinforcements at centre-back so while an extension may happen, it doesn’t necessarily mean the defender will be still in the club’s plans next summer.
