Arsenal An Option For Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand looks set to leave the Theatre of Dreams after 12 glittering years, as the centre-back will reportedly not be offered a new deal to extend his stay at the club beyond the end of the season. The 35-year-old contemplated retirement but believes he still has a few years left in his aging body.

According to the Mirror, he said, “I feel fit, I feel healthy, I feel good. I’m enjoying my football so I’ll definitely be playing on for another year, hopefully two or three more. But I’ll take it year by year and hopefully another year.”

“I’m happy here, I love playing my football. United’s been great for me, it’s enabled my dreams to come true and a lot of the things in football for me. So I have to respect whatever decision the club do, and I’ll do what’s best by the club.”

The report suggests that as many as 12 clubs are monitoring Ferdinand’s situation at United, the most surprising of which is Arsenal. Wenger is apparently a fan of Ferdinand and believes the Premier League veteran can provide vital experience to Arsenal’s back-line.

If he doesn’t sign an extension with United in the upcoming weeks, he will be free to negotiate a deal with Arsenal.

Do you think Wenger should sign Ferdinand on a free transfer?
