Arsenal amongst favourites to land departing Manchester City star

Arsenal are amongst the favourites to land departing Manchester City midfielder this summer.

The Ivorian is set to leave The Etihad after eight years with the Sky Blues – a period in which he won seven major honours, including three Premier League titles.

“After eight years of service I think it’s the right time to move on and let the kids continue to take the responsibility,” said Toure speaking after picking up his title winning medal from this season.

“I’m really happy, I’m delighted to be part of this football club and they’ll be looking forward to being strong next year, they’ve played fantastic football and I hope there will be more of the same next year.”

The Ivorian’s departure from Manchester however is unlikely to signal the end of his career in England.

After eight years, the 34-year-old is understood to prefer to stay in the Premier League rather than re-locate, and their are already a number of club’s being touted to take him on a free this summer.

Arsenal and Chelsea are the favourites to be Toure’s next destination, with a shock move to Manchester United also reportedly on the cards.

Toure famously spent time with Arsenal as a trialist back in 2003, but opted against joining the club on a permanent basis.

Arsene Wenger described missing out on the Ivorian as one of his “biggest regrets”, and while it may be late, the Frenchman could end up atoning for his mistakes by luring Toure to The Emirates before he leaves the club at the end of the season.

Newly promoted Wolves are one of many who are keen to land the Ivory Coast international, with the Championship winners looking to build a side to keep them in the Premier League next season.
