Arsenal Among Host Of English Clubs Tracking Bundesliga Defender Who Has £45m Buyout Clause

Arsenal are interested in signing RB Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konate, according to Sport Bild. The German publication claims the Gunners are not the only team from England keen on the Frenchman with the player’s €50m (£45m) release clause making him an attractive target.

The London club have been interested in Konate’s teammate, Dayot Upamecano, in the past, but with the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Manchester United said to be leading the race for the centre-back, it seems Edu and the recruitment team have been looking at an alternative instead.

Konate has not had a great deal of game time this season, having started the campaign injured. He did, however, start and score in RB Leipzig’s last league match in the 3-0 win over Freiburg last Saturday.

Considering Arsenal do already have another young French centre-back in William Saliba, though, it would be a surprise if they went after another when the transfer window reopens.
