According to the Express, Wolfsburg have confirmed they are out of the race for Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic, clearing the way for Arsenal to sign the striker in the summer transfer window.

Arsene Wenger has been hurt by injuries, and the latest player on the casualty list was record summer signing Mesut Ozil, who has been ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury. The German was taken off at half time in Munich in the week, and now joins the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott on the treatment table. The only reason why Arsenal have been able to field a strong squad is due to the emergence of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski from injury. It is clear that Wenger will need an influx of signings over the summer to maintain Arsenal’s improved form and Olivier Giroud’s performances will benefit from having more competition.

The 27-year old Mandzukic has been in sensational form for Bayern Munich, scoring 31 goals in 46 matches and being part of the squad that won all the trophies last year. However, given the ease of winning the Bundesliga, the striker may look for a fresh challenge in the summer and Arsenal can certainly provide that for him.
