Arsenal Agree Deal For 21-Year-Old As They Close In On First Summer Signing

Arsenal are close to signing Dynamo Dresden goalkeeper Markus Schubert on a free transfer, according to the Independent.

Reports in Germany last month had suggested that the Gunners were keen on the 21-year-old, and it seems the London club have stepped up their interest.

Schubert’s contract expires at the end of this month, and Arsenal are said to be confident that an agreement has been reached with the player.

It is believed the Gunners are already weighing up whether to loan out the keeper next season so he can get more first-team experience.

Schubert could either stay in Germany or spend the campaign in the Championship, but no particular team has emerged as favourites at this stage.

Last season, the German made 31 appearances in Bundesliga-2 for Dresden, conceding 43 goals and keeping nine clean sheets.

Schubert also made his debut for Germany’s Under 21s in a 3-0 friendly win against Mexico back in September.
