Arsenal’s decision to pursue Chelsea winger Willian is at the request of head coach Mikel Arteta, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.
There have been reports over the past day or so that the Brazilian has already agreed to join the Gunners and, while Ornstein doesn’t go that far, he does say that the London club are red hot favourites to secure his signature.
Supporters on Twitter are not sure whether signing Willian is a good decision by Arteta:
Expensive but worth it? Are you kidding me?

I'm not against the player I'm against the length of contract. This will be more media bs.

Well, if Arteta thinks he needs him I'm okay with it.

If Arteta aproves it, I'm in. A bit too inconsistent for my liking, but world class when he's in form. Shows up for big games aswell.

Beggars can’t be choosers. Arsenal’s transfer budget is said to be very limited and if a player like Willian becomes available on a free transfer, it’s not surprising that Arteta has taken the plunge.
As we mentioned in an article yesterday, there are a number of plus points to the move going ahead, although offering the Brazilian a three-year contract, considering he turns 32 in a few days, does seem quite excessive.
