Are Chile’s Football Federation Endangering Arsenal’s Excellent Season Start?

Chile may include Sanchez in the squad for Tuesday night’s game despite the fact that the medical staff admitted the forward picked up a hamstring injury during Monday’s training session. The Chilean Football federation could be playing a dangerous game with Sanchez who could suffer for the rest of the season if proper care is not provided. He is an incredibly hard worker and would never give up on important games such as the match against Uruguay but still, there is no point in jeopardising an entire season for this one game regardless of its influence on the team’s future.

Chile are currently outside of the qualification places which is the main reason Arsenal’s player has been added to the squad for Tuesday. Hopefully his presence will not be needed and Wenger will get some positive feedback from his statements regarding one of the Gunners’ main players. As reported by the Guardian, Wenger reached out to Chile’s Football Federation:

“I got a text last night [to say] that he has a hamstring injury. The team from Chile has travelled without him and they kept him to try and get him fit to play Uruguay for the second game on Tuesday night.

“I believe that with a hamstring injury we have to get access for our medical staff to the MRI scan to see what grade it is, how bad it is and make absolutely sure they don’t make any suicidal decision that could harm his future for two or three months.

“That is absolutely important. It’s a grey area between the national team and the club team and of course they look at their own results which I can understand but we have to preserve the health of Alexis Sánchez.

“He always wants to play and that’s where it is a more sensitive case because he’s always ready to play even when injured.”

Unfortunately, just as Wenger pointed out, Sanchez’s endless determination might be a flaw not just a quality. Hamstring injuries can haunt players their entire career and given the fact that the CONMEBOL qualifying rounds are just half way through, it would be best for him to sit this international break out. It would be difficult for Wenger to find a solution to replace the Chilean even with Giroud being in great form as well.
