“Approached by Arsenal” Report Claims The Gunners Have Already Been In Contact With Ex Chelsea Boss

Arsenal have contacted Antonio Conte about replacing Mikel Arteta “in recent days” according to Calciomercato.com.

In an article that focused on the Italian’s decision to become a pundit for Sky Italy, the website made a passing comment that the former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager had been “approached by Arsenal.”

The fact that the subject of the piece wasn’t the Gunners’ interest in Conte probably means that Calciomercato are going off hearsay, rather than anything concrete but we shall see.

Arteta is not expected to be sacked during the current international break. The Spaniard has overseen a terrible start to the season, with his side losing their first three league games without scoring a goal.

There have been mitigating factors in that players have been absent due to the virus and injuries, but that can’t excuse the very poor performances. It is believed he will be given the league and cup games in September to turn things around.

It wouldn’t be surprising, though, if Conte has been sounded out were Arteta to be relieved of his duties.
