Antoine Griezmann On Possible Arsenal Move

Antoine Griezmann On Possible Arsenal Move

It is widely known that Antoine Griezmann is one of the most wanted men in world football. The striker is truly world-class which Griezmann proved last summer by leading EURO 2016 in scoring and by leading his country to the final plus the 50 goals he has scored in only 90 games played for Atletico Madrid confirm he is a top marksman.

Many clubs have been making overtures to the striker with Paul Pogba trying to convince the striker to join him at Manchester United but Griezmann remains committed to Atletico Madrid where he has had 2 spectacular seasons in 2013-14 and 2014-15 plus he has scored 9 goals in 22 games this season under manager Diego Simeone with whom he has an excellent relationship.

Arsenal are the latest club to have one of their players try to convince Griezmann that his future could lie with them. As ESPNFC.com report various figures close to Griezmann asked him questions about his future and Laurent Koscielny was one of those people and suggested that his fellow Frenchman could achieve his ambitions by joining the North London club. Griezmann who was recently voted French player of the year had this to say in response to Koscielny:

“For Arsenal, he speaks to me about it often. But I’m good in Madrid. I don’t want to leave. I’m happy here,”

“I have just had a little girl, I play my games, I’m good. Sorry, I’m going to stay. But Arsenal are a good team, they play good football.”

When asked about the possibility of joining Zinedine Zidane at rivals Real Madrid, Griezmann reassured Atletico fans by saying:

“I’m so good at Atletico. Honestly, I don’t see myself leaving,” he stated. “People often talk to me about England too, but I’m good here. And also, going from Atletico to Real must be difficult. I don’t necessarily have the desire to try, nor to ask those who have already done it. No, I’m not thinking about it.”

When Noel Le Graet, the French Football Federation president, asked Griezmann if he would contemplate returning to play in France for the teams he supported as a youngster, he did offer some hope to French football clubs saying:

“If one day I came to Ligue 1, it would be to Lyon or Marseille. When I started watching matches, it was those of Marseille. After that, it was Lyon. I went to see them all the time in the league or the Champions League with my dad.

“Sometimes it was minus 4 [degrees], but we went all the same. I loved it. I even posted a picture of myself with [former Lyon striker] Sonny Anderson on Twitter. I loved him too.”

So sadly Arsenal do not seem to be in the running to sign Antoine Griezmann but at least he does not look like he wants to join rivals Man United either. As we know things can change very quickly in football and if Diego Simeone leaves Atletico then Griezmann may well leave too so Gooners can only hope that Laurent Koscielny can convince the super striker that playing for Arsene Wenger would be an ideal move for him. Time will tell.
